We’re excited to announce the addition of two new Project Managers to CRA’s program team! With Keenan and Tom on board, we’re poised to take on even more watershed restoration and reforestation efforts than ever before. Our new three-year work plan has doubled in scope since its last release, providing incredible opportunities for growth and impact.
Meet Keenan and Tom, two conservation powerhouses ready to help lead transformation.
Keenan Cooper:
Keenan grew up in Cadillac, MI, surrounded by the Manistee National Forest, which allowed for his deep-rooted passion for the natural world to take hold. Throughout his upbringing, this passion flourished, eventually leading him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in fisheries management from Northern Michigan University (NMU). Keenan’s time at NMU inspired his career path in conservation, where he now helps restore, preserve, and protect our streams to ensure that Michigan’s natural resources can be enjoyed for generations to come. Before joining CRA, Keenan worked for the Water Resources Division of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, where he administered the state’s water resource protection statutes throughout eight counties. This experience, paired with countless hours exploring the nooks and crannies of Northern Michigan has provided Keenan with invaluable knowledge of the region that CRA serves. Outside of work, Keenan can be found fly fishing and canoeing in northern Michigan rivers, downhill skiing, spending time with his two golden retrievers, tying flies, and playing his guitar.
Tom Vitale:
Tom grew up exploring Michigan’s rivers, lakes, and trails, sparking a lifelong commitment to protecting the state’s natural treasures. He earned a B.S. in Physical Geography from Northern Michigan University, where he focused on the Dead River Basin and the Tourist Park Dam breach. With over 15 years of experience, Tom has worked on land and water restoration projects with organizations such as the Grand Traverse Conservation District, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and The Nature Conservancy. His work has played a vital role in restoring habitats across the Great Lakes region. Outside of work, Tom enjoys hiking, paddling, gardening, and sailing on Grand Traverse Bay with his family, as well as traveling to explore the beauty and diversity of our planet.
