Pine River Activities 2008

July 24, 2008

In February, the Pine River sand trap near Bristol was emptied of nearly 300 cubic yards of sand. The 12/13 storm caused some major damage to stream crossings in both Osceola and Lake Counties, with some Wexford County crossings also damaged. The trap will be emptied again before fall.

Work was completed on installation of a new culvert at the Coe Creek crossing of 20 Mile road in Osceola County. The road has been repaved and the upgraded culvert is much more capable of handling the high flows.

The crossing of 220th and the East Branch of the Pine is being replaced in cooperation with the Osceola County Road Commission. The old, failing arch structure is being replaced with a timber bridge and the road will be paved to sediment laden runoff from entering the stream. The project is expected to take until fall of 2008 with total costs exceeding $300,000.

Design work has begun on the Silver Creek crossing at State Road in Lake County, with possible construction planned for 2008.
