Maple River Update September 2018

September 28, 2018
Late summer and early fall has been a busy time on the Maple River. CRA's coordinated effort to address the worst road crossings and man-made barriers has focused on the Lake Kathlee Dam and adjacent Woodlan Road crossing. Team Elmer's, the project contractor has been on site since mid summer and the transformation is nothing short of remarkable.

Siphon tubes have been utilized to draw the lakes level down so that a temporary coffer dam could be constructed and  the existing spillway could be demolished. This also has allowed the old culverts under Woodland Road to be be removed in preparation for the construction of a new freespanning timber bridge. The end result will be a restored river channel where the lake stood for decades and connectivity of over 40 miles of Maple River main stem and tributaries. More natural stream function is the goal and that will soon be realized.
