DTE Energy Foundation and CRA partner to impact the sustainability of Northern Michigan Waterways

July 7, 2016
Traverse City, Michigan – July 7, 2016

The DTE Energy Foundation announced a grant of $150,000 today to the Traverse City-based Conservation Resource Alliance’s (CRA) River Care program that will help build bridges, remove barriers, improve aquatic habitat and enhance recreational access to northwest Michigan waterways over the next three years.  Today’s announcement builds on the success of a 14-year partnership between CRA and the DTE Energy Foundation to restore and protect some of northern Michigan’s most beautiful natural resources.

Since the inception of the partnership in 2002, the DTE Energy Foundation has contributed more than $500,000 to CRA to support watershed conservation initiatives on 14 watersheds in 13 counties in Northern Michigan.  Annually, CRA completes more than 70 projects that involve the protection, conservation and restoration of watershed resources, by working closely with local stakeholders in communities throughout the region and matching private and public support to priority projects.

“The DTE Energy Foundation is committed to doing our part to help protect and preserve the environment in the areas where our employees live and serve,” said Daniel Brudzynski,
vice president of Gas Sales and Supply at DTE Energy.  “We are proud to continue this important work with the Conservation Resource Alliance to help ensure that local residents and visitors are able to enjoy Michigan’s beautiful waterways and natural habitats for generations to come.”

CRA’s slate of new projects for 2016 through 2018 include continuing road crossing replacements and habitat enhancements of the Maple River watershed in Emmet County; the construction of a new bridge over the Jordan River in Antrim County on Old State Road to commence in 2017; and projects throughout Benzie County and on the Manistee, Big Sable, and Pere Marquette watersheds.

“The impact that DTE Energy Foundation’s support makes for our northern communities is huge,” said Amy Beyer, Director of CRA. “They have established themselves as a committed partner that is making a real difference for natural resources throughout the region and state.”
