During an assessment of salmonid habitat on the Little Manistee River it was found there was a pronounced lack of overhead cover in the stretch running through the US Forest Service âDriftwood Valleyâ campground. CRA, working with partners including the Little Manistee Watershed Conservation Council, the US Forest Service, and the Pine River and the Kalamazoo Valley Chapters of Trout Unlimited coordinated the implementation of a habitat improvement project. This involved the construction and placement of 24 in-stream islands and log raft structures in approximately 1000â of river.
Best Management Practices:
⢠fish/macroinvertebrate habitat enhancement
⢠streambank stabilization
Project Benefits:
⢠Improved aesthetics
⢠increased habitat for both fish and lower trophic level organisms
Partners involved:
⢠Conservation Resource Alliance â¢US Forest Service
